Hi, I would love for you to take a peak at NutriSleuth (www.nutrisleuth.com) - it is a very useful tool for Celiacs.  I am a registered dietitian and I created this app to help special-dietary-needs consumers when they need it the most - food shopping.  The iPhone app scans bar codes on food labels and alerts the user if there is a conflict with a food allergy or chronic condition in the user's (or their family's) profile.  I have built extensive parameters to filter the products at the ingredient level and do not just rely on manufacturer warnings.  NutriSleuth also covers cross contamination and runs off of a professional food product database of over 200,000 products.  I hope users can feel like they have a personal dietitian by their side.  Your help in connecting to Celiacs would be amazing.

Hi, I would love for you to take a peak at NutriSleuth (www.nutrisleuth.com) - it is a very useful tool for Celiacs.  I am a registered dietitian and I created this app to help special-dietary-needs consumers when they need it the most - food shopping.  The iPhone app scans bar codes on food labels and alerts the user if there is a conflict with a food allergy or chronic condition in the user's (or their family's) profile.  I have built extensive parameters to filter the products at the ingredient level and do not just rely on manufacturer warnings.  NutriSleuth also covers cross contamination and runs off of a professional food product database of over 200,000 products.  I hope users can feel like they have a personal dietitian by their side.  Your help in connecting to Celiacs would be amazing.

Mom, daughter create gluten-free foods as good as the originals

The National Restaurant Association named gluten-free dining a top 10 menu trend for 2010 - not surprising given that celiac disease, a genetic gluten ...  (Great story about Anne Hoyt, her daughter, Taylor, and their business Wholesome Foods Bakery, in Dallas, TX.  Ann and her daughter brought samples of their bakery items to a NTGIG meeting earlier this year and everyone loved them.  Also mentioned in the story was mention of our Gluten Free Makeover Event September 19 at the Gaylord Hotel.  I hope to see you all there!  Betty)

BJ’s Restaurants are now serving Gluten Free Pizza. First of all, BJ’s has partnered with GIG in an effort to ensure all of our practices, procedures and training is accurate and sound to ensure we always protect the food served to those with gluten sensitivities/allergies. With the guidance of GIG, BJ’s has worked through the Restaurant Awareness Program and had GIG come into our kitchen and certify the process for the Gluten Free Pizza. As part of the RAP, all B’s team members were trained with videos and documents followed with testing and certification sign off. All team members current, and future, will have this and the documentation filed for our follow up.

As to the specifics on the pizza,

• all equipment used is specific to it and kept segregated at the top of the station to ensure no cross contact with any gluten product
• the team members put on fresh vinyl gloves prior to assembling the pizza
• a piece of parchment paper is placed on their work station
• a sole use metal pizza disk is placed on the paper
• a par baked crust is removed from an air tight sole purpose green lid container
• crust is sauced, cheesed and toppings (all from fresh/unused covered containers)
• disk with pizza is placed in oven
• team member changes gloves to a fresh pair before removing pizza from oven with sole use pizza peel
• pizza cut on peel with a sole use green handle pizza cutter, then plated
• tools are washed and returned to the top of the station

All of this happens under the watch of a manager who will then bring the pizza to the guest.
